Chevalier, Allen & Lichman, LLP, Successfully Settle LAX Litigation.
The parties to the litigation arising from the LAX modernization and expansion plan, known as the LAX Master Plan Program, entered into a settlement agreement representing months of intense negotiations and collaboration. In exchange for dismissal of both state and federal lawsuits, the City of Los Angeles and Los Angeles World Airports committed to, among other things, reduce the number of gates at LAX, fund sound insulation for communities surrounding LAX, and implement a regional distribution of air traffic demand.
Chevalier, Allen & Lichman, LLP, represented the County of Los Angeles and the Cities of Inglewood and Culver City in both the state and federal lawsuits challenging the LAX Master Plan Program. In conjunction with counsel for the City of El Segundo and the Alliance for a Regional Solution to Airport Congestion, Chevalier, Allen & Lichman, LLP, were an integral part of the negotiations which resulted in the historic settlement. “This settlement can serve as a nationwide model for dispute resolution between airports and their neighbors. In addition to the material benefits realized by the parties, such as vastly increased funding for sound insulation, the most fundamental benefit is the on-going, long-term working relationship between Los Angeles World Airports and surrounding communities that is fostered by the settlement.” - Barbara Lichman, Ph.D., managing partner of Chevalier, Allen & Lichman, LLP.
